Stockton City Council Candidate and LAW OFFICE OF ALLEN SAWYER PC Client Facing Felony Election Fraud Charges Formally Withdraws from Race
Desiree Lynch, accused of seeking office on the Stockton City Council in a district she does not live, formally withdrew from the race via a signed letter on Aug. 24. Her attorney, Stockton Criminal Defense Lawyer Allen Sawyer, released a statement related to the withdrawal.
As reported by KCRA News 3, on Monday, August 24, Stockton Criminal Defense Attorney Allen Sawyer released a statement related to the withdrawal of his client, Desiree Lynch, from the race for a District 5 seat on the Stockton City Council.
“Ms. Lynch resigned and withdrew from the race effective immediately,” read Sawyer’s statement. “In light of the legal process she is facing, there will be no other comment on this matter. Ms. Lynch is focused on taking care of her daughter and will devote 100% of her attention to her family responsibilities.”
Lynch is accused by the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office of fabricating her residency both on her voter registration and her candidate filing paperwork with addresses that would put her under City Council District 5. The attorney’s office alleges she actually lives in District 1. On August 19, Lynch was arrested on five felony charges including three counts of perjury, false filing of a declaration of candidacy, and voter registration violation.
According to The Record, Lynch formally withdrew from the race on Aug. 24 in a signed letter submitted to the Stockton city clerk’s office that read, “Please accept this letter as my unequivocal withdrawal from the race and remove my name from consideration as permitted by law.”
At her September 2 arraignment in San Joaquin County Superior Court, Lynch was once again represented by Attorney Allen Sawyer, who secured another favorable result by successfully keeping her out of custody. The stakes were significant: If convicted, Lynch faced a potential prison sentence of up to six years and eight months.
